S1 Ep1 – My Story

Shownotes

My very first podcast episode!

I’m so excited for you to listen to the very first episode of The Inspiring Mums Podcast, where I share my story with you.

I’m honest about how tough I found motherhood the first and second time around, what I did to help myself cope better and how I’m doing now as a mum of three.

In this episode, I talk about:

  • Who I am – as a Coach and a mum of three
  • Why I wanted to start the Inspiring Mums podcast – one of the reasons being that I love chatting!
  • How my experience of motherhood led me to retrain as a Coach – I talk about my recovery from post-natal anxiety
  • What life looks like for me now – mainly just trying to keep up with the constant juggle!

Here’s something I created just for you…

It’s safe to say that the overwhelm has hit me even more since becoming a mum of 3.

A few weeks ago, I was having one of those days where everything just got on top of me. I know that when I’m feeling totally overwhelmed, I need a pep talk and someone to give me a different take on things – it really helps me get out of my own head for a minute.

So, that feeling inspired me to create…

The 5 Mini Pep Talks for Overwhelmed Mums. These pep talks will:

  • shift your mindset
  • ease your overwhelm and
  • give you a positive boost when you need it the most.

I hope these 5 mini pep talks help ease your overwhelm, even just a tiny bit.

Quotes from this episode

  • “I thought that being a good mum meant completely abandoning myself.” – Jenna Folarin
  • “I was doing a good job (as a mum), but I was so hard on myself, constantly criticising myself.” – Jenna Folarin
  • “Mums should be sharing how they really feel, we shouldn’t have to hide that we struggle.” – Jenna Folarin

Resources mentioned in this episode

  • MIND (Mental Health Charity) – this is a link to the local MIND offices around the UK.
  • MIND was the first place I reached out to when I had post natal anxiety and they were unbelievably helpful. They talked to me, signposted me to mental health support and referred me to the GP with this info. This experience kick-started my recovery from post-natal anxiety.
  • Tommy’s has this really helpful link advice and support about post-natal anxiety .

Here’s my huge rainbow coloured crochet blanket that I mentioned in this episode too. It took me a good 3 months to do, I started it when I was heavily pregnant and finished it when my son was a newborn!

I basically have learnt this pattern from the amazing Attic 24, and just keep doing the same pattern in different sizes and colours, I love it.

If you are feeling totally overwhelmed atm, I created the 5 Mini Pep Talks for Overwhelmed Mums, just for you.

These pep talks are totally free and will help shift your mindset, ease your overwhelm and give you a positive boost when you need it the most.

About me

I’m Jenna, a mum of three and a Qualified Coach for Mums. I’m on a mission to help as many mums as possible to feel happier and to live a life that feels good to them.

I listen to overwhelmed and exhausted mums with young kids, talk about what they really want and need in their lives. Together we set goals and take small (totally do-able) steps, to create long-lasting change.

I qualified as a Coach in 2020 through The Coaching Academy and also trained in Mindfulness for Mums through 10 of Zen in 2019.

As well as coaching, I’ve created and delivered well-being workshops for Cardiff University and also set up and ran a monthly self-care group for mums in my local community.

I live in South Wales with my husband and 3 children, and when my kids are finally asleep I love nothing better than reading, or crocheting a huge colourful blanket.
