Empowering Mums

Last week, I had a chat with a friend about how she empowers mums in her job as a Post Partum Doula. She gives mums emotional and practical support in those early days of motherhood. This support means that the mum’s confidence grows and she trusts in herself more. That conversation got me thinking of how there are similarities between what a Doula does and what I do as a Coach for Mums.

The way that I empower my clients is to:

⚡ hold a safe space for them and listen to them so they feel fully seen and heard
⚡ask the right kind of questions instead of giving advice
⚡reflect their answers back to them which makes them more self-aware
⚡remind them of their values, strengths and achievements which boosts their confidence

When a mum feels empowered, it means that she feels like she can :

🙌 trust her own instincts
🙌 live her life on her terms in the way that is right for her and her family
🙌 follow her dreams because they are important to her
🙌 prioritise her own happiness as well as her family’s happiness – because she knows that she matters too
🙌 let go of feelings of guilt, of not being good enough and not believing in herself
🙌 deal with the tough times because she has the tools to help her, and appreciate the good times because she feels more present

Journal around these questions and see what comes up for you:

🌻What does empowerment mean to you?

🌻 What do you notice about yourself when you feel empowered?

🌻What area of your life would you love to feel more empowered in?
