What does success mean to you as a Mum?

What comes to your mind when you think of success?

I read this quote recently from Gavin Strange which really spoke to me:

What matters even more is what your legacy should be as a person, what you bring to the world as an individual. Your projects, pursuits & passions speak volumes, but that’s because they are a natural extension of you as a human being.

Be kind, be humble, be honest, be open, be supportive, be compassionate, be patient, be engaged, be excited, be dedicated, be true, be absolutely lovely. Be all of these things and more because that’s the real mark of success.”

This is a great reminder to look at our lives from a bigger perspective. You can ask yourself:

⚡What unique things do you bring to the world and your family?

⚡What is your passion in life?

⚡What is your purpose in life?

⚡What do you want your legacy to be?

We don’t often get a chance to step back and reflect on what really matters to us from a big picture perspective. When we know this, we can apply this to our goals, because we know what they mean to us deep down and why we are doing them. When we can connect on why we are setting a particular goal and why it means something to us, we feel more motivated to take action and are more successful in achieving our goals too.

This quote also shifts the idea of success on its head.

What comes to mind when you think of being successful?

It might be a bigger house, better car, promotion in work and just more money in general. The problem with these markers of success is that it will never be enough, because we are in a ‘more more more’ mindset. These are often the things that you think you need to have/or what society tells us is success.

As mums, the idea of success that we had before we had kids might now be really different to how we see success now. Reflecting on this can really help give you a renewed sense of focus and purpose.

Ask yourself:

⚡What are the most important things to me in my life right now?

⚡What does a successful life look like to me?

⚡ What experiences bring me the most joy in my life?

It might be pursuing your dream career so that you know you are living an authentic life and are a happier mum as a result. It might be taking time out just for you everyday so that you can re-energise and model to your kids that your needs are important too.

It might be more quality time with your kids, to live closer to your extended family, or a job that is flexible around family life. Or simply to feel happier. Whatever your version of success is, coaching helps you on your way to achieve this.

When you reflect on what is really important to you in your life, it means that you can set meaningful goals and take the first baby steps to living a successful life.
